“When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 21-24

Article – God Will Have a Tried People – We came to mortal life to encounter resistance. It was part of the plan for our eternal progress. Without temptation, sickness, pain, and sorrow, there could be no goodness, virtue, appreciation for well-being, or joy.

Article – The Refiner’s Fire – Here then is a great truth. In the pain, the agony, and the heroic endeavors of life, we pass through a refiner’s fire, and the insignificant and the unimportant in our lives can melt away like dross and make our faith bright, intact, and strong.

Video – Searching for God in Trials – Job had a desperate desire to stand before God and plead his case, to rationally persuade God that Job is innocent of wrongdoing. But Job couldn’t just waltz up to heaven. He felt that God was completely inaccessible to him. Despite Job’s loneliness, he acknowledged that God never really left him. “He knows the way that I take.” Even when His hand isn’t immediately evident, God is aware and is always watching. Job expressed the hope that after his trials, he “shall come out like gold.” This is a direct reference back to Eliphaz’s chastisement in the previous chapter that Job needed to do away with his gold. Job’s response was that his trials shall turn him into gold. If we let them, trials can have a refining effect on our characters, just as ore being refined into precious gold.
