Video – Joseph Smith – The Prophet of the Restoration – (D&C 135) This review of the Prophet Joseph Smith’s ministry shows that he “has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world.” (13:09 minutes)

Video – Ministry of Joseph Smith: Sealed His Testimony with His Blood – Joseph Smith dies in Carthage Jail, a martyr for the cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ. (1:14 minutes)

Article – The Martyrdom of the Prophet page 1 and page 2 – An illustrated telling of the martyrdom of Joseph Smith.

Audio – The Prophet is Killed – A Primary teacher and children learn about more trouble for the Saints and the Martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. Mobs in Illinois began to attack the Saints. The Saints asked for help from the governor of Illinois, but he refused to help. Joseph, his brother Hyrum, and others were arrested and taken to Carthage Jail. A mob broke into Carthage Jail and killed Joseph and Hyrum.

Audio – A New Leader for the Church – A Primary teacher and children learn about a new leader for the Church and about endowments in the Nauvoo Temple. After the death of the Prophet Joseph Smith, a new leader needed to be appointed. Brigham Young was appointed to lead the Church. The Saints dedicated a section of the Nauvoo Temple for endowment work and began to receive their endowments.

Audio – The Saints Leave Nauvoo – A Primary teacher and children learn about the Saints leaving Nauvoo. When the mobs realized that the Church would not go away after the death of Joseph Smith, they continued to persecute the Saints. The Saints began to leave for the West to escape the persecution.

Audio – The Mormon Battalion – A Primary teacher and children learn about the Mormon Battalion. Captain James Allen of the United States Army came to the Saints and asked them for 500 men to volunteer to help with the war in Mexico. Five hundred forty-one men volunteered to serve. They marched 2,000 miles to California, but they didn’t have to fight.

Audio – Establishing Winter Quarters – A Primary teacher and children learn about Winter Quarters. While the Mormon Battalion was marching towards Mexico, the Saints built a small town called Winter Quarters and began to prepare for the rest of their journey west.

Audio – The Pioneers Go to the Salt Lake Valley – A Primary teacher and children learn about the pioneers arriving in the Salt Lake Valley. In April of 1847, the Saints continued their journey across the plains to the Salt Lake Valley. When they got to the Rocky Mountains, Brigham Young sent men ahead to prepare the land. When they arrived, they dedicated the land and began to plant crops.

To help families be more intentional with their Ea To help families be more intentional with their Easter celebration I thought I’d share here a FREE 30 day Easter Countdown that I created in 2012 and shared on my other blog back then. This 30 day countdown to Easter utilizes The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles. Each day focuses on a portion of that document – either a sentence or a paragraph or a name of Christ.

There are scriptures to read, discussion questions, and even additional activity ideas for each day!

Hello! Welcome to A Gospel Centered Home. I’m Mont Hello! Welcome to A Gospel Centered Home. I’m Montserrat. My husband, Joseph, and I have eleven children. We’ve raised them on lots of love and land on a farm in Northern Nevada. Four of our daughters are married and another will be getting married this Saturday! (Last photo) Our 10th grandchild was born December 30th! We currently have a son serving as a missionary in the Michigan Detroit Mission. We still have four children at home.

One highlight of 2025 was getting to help with the open house for the Elko Nevada Temple. It was a memorable experience.

In our many years of parenting we have learned that teaching the gospel can be really simple. You don’t need a lot of fluff. The church has produced a TON of resources for parents over the years. Each week I link to those free resources on church websites to help you teach your children. I try to find a wide variety of activities, articles, music, artwork, and videos. While I often forget to post here on Instagram, I always post on the blog. You can find the link in the profile.
