We Lived After the Manner of Happiness – 2 Nephi 3 – 5

As you study this week pay attention to what elements make up true happiness, how we can achieve that in our lives and with our families, and how happiness doesn’t mean we are free from sorrow and trials.

EVERYONE

Lesson – The Prophet Joseph Smith – A family home evening lesson about Joseph Smith.

Video – Who was Joseph Smith? – Joseph Smith was the first prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young teenager, he was visited by God and Jesus Christ.

Video – True Joy is Possible Through Jesus Christ – The path to joy starts with faith in God and Jesus Christ.

Video – Temples Through Time – Throughout time, many religions have built temples. Scholars, ministers, people of various faiths, and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints share their thoughts about the temples of old and present-day temples and how both connect people with heaven.

Video – Lehi Gives His Family a Final Blessing – 2 Nephi 1–4 | Lehi teaches that Jesus Christ is central to God’s plan of salvation and that those who follow the Savior and keep His commandments will be blessed.

Video – The Nephites Separate From the Lamanites – 2 Nephi 5 | Nephi’s older brothers are angry with him and desire to kill him. The Lord warns Nephi and his people to leave and settle in a new land. The people live after the manner of happiness.

Activity/Article – Lessons From the Prophet Joseph – Henry B. Eyring shares some stories about Joseph Smith. Includes two activities.

Article – How Can the Gospel Help Me Be Happy? – Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles talks about how the gospel of Jesus Christ brings us joy.

YOUTH

Article – Because of Joseph Smith – Read the article and write down at least five ways your life has been blessed because of Joseph Smith. From the April 2015 New Era.

Article – The Quest for Happiness – In this New Era article, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles gives some ideas for how we can live “after the manner of happiness.”

Article – Am I Living “After the Manner of Happiness?” – Here are some ideas for you to live the way Nephi said his people lived.

Article – Meet the Four Josephs of 2 Nephi 3 – Did you know that a prophet named Joseph spoke about Joseph Smith almost 4,000 years ago?

YOUTH & ADULTS

Article – The Joy of the Saints – Joy comes from keeping Christ’s commandments, from overcoming sorrow and weakness through Him, and from serving as He served.

Article – The Great Plan of Happiness – All of the myriads of mortals who have been born on this earth chose the Father’s plan and fought for it. Many of us also made covenants with the Father concerning what we would do in mortality. In ways that have not been revealed, our actions in the spirit world influence us in mortality.

Article – Lessons from the Book of Mormon: After the Manner of Happiness – Great solace and satisfaction should come to us in knowing that our happiness and progress are basic to our Father’s purposes.
