Gathered in this post are resources to help you teach your family not only the stories of the people in the Old Testament but also the doctrine and principles found in the study block for the Come, Follow Me reading of Amos and Obadiah. There are resources for children, youth, and adults. Every resource linked to is free! Most links are to church websites or websites approved for further gospel study. Choose on thing a day to do with your family or a couple to do for family home evening. Enjoy!

Video – The Great Apostasy – Wilford Woodruff’s search for the true Church explains the Apostasy and need for the Restoration. It emphasizes four essential elements of the true Church that were lost because of the Great Apostasy. (16:33 minutes)

Primary Children

Prophets are messengers of Jesus Christ. Amos 3:7; 7:14–15

Activity – Prophets are Messengers of Jesus Christ – Maze

Activity – Prophets and Apostles – A coloring page of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Activity/Article – God Speaks through Prophets – Includes pictures of prophets to match with scripture references.

Activity – I Can Make Good Choices – Coloring pages

Activity – Choose the Right Way – A maze-like game that uses pictures of right and wrong choices. Includes ideas for parents to teach about how good choices make us happy.

Article – Happiness and Obedience – President Russell M. Nelson shares some blessings we receive when we try to keep all the commandments.

Article – The Harvest – Elder Aoyagi of the Seventy tells the story of how he was blessed for wanting to attend church as a child.

Article – Righteous Desires – Elder Clate W. Mask Jr. of the Seventy teaches that we usually end up doing what we want—the key is to want the right things.

The Restoration of the gospel ended the famine of apostasy. Amos 8:11-12

Activity – Learning about the Restoration – Find items that represent parts of the Restoration in this illustration of missionary teaching a family the gospel.

The Lord reveals truth through His prophets. Amos 3:1–8; 7:10–15

Article – Sustaining the Prophets – Our sustaining of prophets is a personal commitment that we will do our utmost to uphold their prophetic priorities.

Article – Heed the Prophet’s Voice – I believe we should pause at the conclusion of this memorable session to remember what it means to sustain a President of the Church as a seer and a prophet.

The word of the Lord can satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst. Apostasy is like a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. Amos 5; 8:11-12

Article – Learning the Lessons of the Past – Learning the lessons of the past allows you to build personal testimony on a solid bedrock of obedience, faith, and the witness of the Spirit.

Article – “He Hath Filled the Hungry with Good Things” – Everything in the gospel teaches us that we can change if we need to, that we can be helped if we truly want it, that we can be made whole, whatever the problems of the past.

Article – “Peace Like a River” – The restoration of the gospel is about hope. Heidi S. Swinton speaks of the restoration and how its message should bring “peace like a river” to our souls.

Article – The Intimate Restoration – He who will bring about the restoration of all things also brings to pass the intimate restorations that heal us, cleanse us, and fulfill divine promises.
