Gathered in this post are resources to help you teach your family not only the stories of the people in the Old Testament but also the doctrine and principles found in the study block for the Come, Follow Me reading of Psalms 49-51; 61-66; 69-72; 77-78; 85-86. There are resources for children, youth, and adults. Every resource linked to is free! Most links are to church websites or websites approved for further gospel study. Choose on thing a day to do with your family or a couple to do for family home evening. Enjoy!

Saving That Which Was Lost by Michael T. Malm

Video – Reclaimed – Just as a garbage dump can be turned into a beautiful park, a life of sin can be cleansed and changed through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Elder Shayne M. Bowen teaches, “The Atonement of Jesus Christ is available to each of us. It can clean, reclaim, and sanctify even you.” (3:26 minutes)

Video – Repentance: A Joyful Choice – Dale G. Renlund tells a childhood story of lighting a firecracker in the chapel right before church began. He relates his story to the joy of repentance. (4:36 minutes)

Video – Shine Your Light So Others May See – “The Savior’s call to “shine our light” is a call to intentionally focus our light to help others see their next step forward to come to Christ,” says Bonnie H. Cordon, Young Women General President. (3:19 minutes)

Primary Children

Activity – Learning from Mistakes – Put in order the sequence of events leading to repentance.

Activity – What Is Repentance? – A puzzle that uses the scriptures to define repentance.

Story – Repentance is a Good Thing – Gemma didn’t know why she got so mad.

Story – How can repenting help me feel happy? – Dale G. Renlund shares some thoughts about repentance. Includes a story of when Elder Renlund set off a firecracker at church as a child. Goes along with the video “Repentance: A Joyful Choice” listed under “everyone”

Story – Clean Again – A girl makes a mistake shortly after her baptism, but she learns she can repent.

I can tell others about Jesus Christ. Psalm 71:8

Activity – Let’s Put on a Pageant! – A scripted activity depicting the story of Ammon and the Lamanite King.

Activity/Article – I Will Share the Gospel with All of God’s Children –An invitation for children to share the gospel along with some pass-along cards you can share.

Article – Be Brave and Share! – Paul B. Pieper tells about a few times his children were able to share the gospel.

Article – Blessings for Blessy – Blessy, who lives in India, was able to share the gospel by planning a special Christmas activity for her school.

Story – Jesus Is Our Friend – Carson finds a book with Bible stories at the doctor’s office and asks a lady with a baby to read it to him. He tells her Jesus is his friend.

Activity/Article – The $5 Miracle – A young Thomas S. Monson prays fervently after accidentally leaving money in jeans that are laundered. Includes a crossword about prayer.

Activity/Article – The Lord’s Prayer – Henry B. Eyring explains the different parts of the Lord’s Prayer. Includes instructions for making a simple prayer mobile.

Story – Dolphins to the Rescue! – Sister Lisa L. Harkness of the general Primary presidency shares a story of when she was saved after praying for help.

Story – Riding to the Rescue – Sterling follows a prompting he gets after praying about what to do to help someone who is injured.

Story – A Miraculous Escape from Danger – A girl miraculously escapes from a bear with only minor injuries.

Story – Jesus Works Miracles – A description of some of the miracles Jesus performed.

The Lord wants to forgive. Psalm 86:5, 13, 15

Story – Asking for Forgiveness – Haley shares how she felt forgiveness when she prayed after yelling at her brother.

Story – Jesus Forgave – A retelling of how Jesus forgave and encourages us to forgive.

Video – Handclasps in the Psalms and in the Temple – Because the psalms were likely used in temple and coronation rituals, they can give us subtle clues as to how some of these rituals were performed. Several psalms give us insight into how the king may have been coronated or initiated into his role with a divine handclasp (Psalm 27, 41, 63, 73, 89). Book of Mormon Central (3:23 minutes)
