Gathered in this post are resources to help you teach your family not only the stories of the people in the Old Testament but also the doctrine and principles found in the study block for the Come, Follow Me reading of Genesis 3-4; Moses 4-5. There are resources for children, youth, and adults. Every resource linked to is free! Most links are to church websites or websites approved for further gospel study. Choose on thing a day to do with your family or a couple to do for family home evening. Enjoy!

Article – Lessons from Eve – Without women, the whole purpose of the creation of this world would be in vain. This truth we learn from scriptures about the priesthood, the Creation, Adam and Eve.

Video – Cain and Abel and the Fall – The Fall of Adam and Eve seems to repeat itself in the story of Cain and Abel. There are quite a few similarities in the two stories, but there are also some important differences. The similarities and differences between the Fall and the story of Cain and Abel illustrate how God cares deeply about His children and wants them to turn to Him in repentance when we make a mistake. God knows that we’re going to make mistakes in life, and when those mistakes happen, we should be willing to turn towards God, instead of turning away from Him. Book of Mormon Central (4:40 minutes)

The Fall was a necessary part of God’s plan to redeem His children. (Genesis 3:1-7; Moses 4; 5:4-12)

Article – The Choice That Began Mortality – The Fall was a glorious necessity to open the doorway toward eternal life.

Article – The Great Plan – We who know God’s plan and who have covenanted to participate have a clear responsibility to teach these truths.

Article – The Fall was Part of God’s Plan – Because of the Fall, we get to come to earth and can one day return to live with our Father in Heaven.

What does it mean that Adam was to “rule over” Eve? (Genesis 3:16; Moses 4:22)

Article – Was Adam Meant to “Rule Over” or “Rule With” Eve? – Looking at the verse in context, it is evident that the Lord is not telling the couple how they should treat each other, but rather describing a tragic tendency in mortal marriages that they must avoid. From the Interpreter Foundation.

Article – I Have a Question: Genesis 3:16 – Many people have difficulty understanding or correctly applying the Lord’s words to Eve at the time of the Fall: “Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” (Gen. 3:16.) Some feel this is demeaning to women, and some men use it as an excuse to exercise unrighteous dominion. Can you give some insight on this verse?

Article – Equal Partnership in Marriage – In the plan of happiness, man and woman play equally powerful and equally important roles.

God will accept my sacrifices if I offer them with a willing and obedient heart. (Moses 5:4-9, 16-26)

We need agency and opposition in order to grow. (Moses 4:1-3; 5:1-12)

Article – The Gift of Agency – As we obey our Heavenly Father’s commandments, our faith increases, we grow in wisdom and spiritual strength, and it becomes easier for us to make right choices.

Article – Agency: The Gift of Choices – While the freedom to choose involves the risk of mistakes, it also offers the opportunity, through our Father’s plan, to overcome them.

Article – To Act for Ourselves: The Gift and Blessings of Agency – Agency used righteously allows light to dispel the darkness and enables us to live with joy and happiness.

Article – Agency— A Blessing and a Burden – Agency is the power to think, choose, and act for ourselves. It comes with endless opportunities, accompanied by responsibility and consequences.

Satan seeks “to deceive and to blind” us. (Moses 4:4-12; 5:13-33)

Article – Overcoming Satan’s Tactics – Satan does everything he can to deceive us. Thankfully we have divine help to avoid his traps.

Article – Be Not Deceived – The Holy Ghost will protect us against being deceived, but to realize that wonderful blessing we must always do the things necessary to retain that Spirit.

We should not consider secular prominence or authority as qualified sources of truth. When we seek the truth about religion, we should use spiritual methods appropriate for that search.
